The 17 stilted suites of Saadani River Lodge are the epitome of ‘luxury, naturally’, built for rest and relaxation on the southern shore of the Wami River close to the Saadani National Park. The guest tree houses blend into the natural scenery on their stilts with traditional thatched roofs. In addition, for the ultimate secluded escape, Saadani River Lodge’s Wami Suite is a private villa with its own infinity pool, two bedrooms and bathrooms, a living room and dining room. Saadani River Lodge offers guests a range of activities including game drives and river excursions. The in-house spa provides indulgent massages to enjoy between activities.

Children aged 15 years and younger are required to share with their parents. Saadani River Lodge is unable to accommodate triples. Private activities and a private vehicle must be booked and paid for, subject to availability, for children between 6 to 9 years of age, so as to not inconvenience other guests. When booking sole use of a camp, the minimum age restriction does not apply, however there are no formal child care facilities and thus children must be under the care of their parents/guardians at all times. Babysitting service is not available.

Suites

The 17 stilted suites are built from Pinewood, Mtondoro hardwood and Teak wood and are covered in traditional thatching. With en-suite bathrooms over looking the river and private balconies, our guests are never far away from nature. Four of the suites also feature air-conditioning.

Wami Suite
For the ultimate secluded escape, River Lodge’s Wami Suite is a private villa with its own infinity pool, two bedrooms and bathrooms, a living room and dining room. Hidden within the lush jungle, this villa is perfect for our guests who wish for ultimate relaxation and an intimate environment.

Activities
There is a huge amount of wildlife in and around the lodge, which can be spotted while in a 4×4 or in a boat enjoying a river excursion. View hippos, crocodiles and even Colobus monkeys by the river. This area is also a bird watching paradise where guests are able to view birds such as the Brown-necked parrot and Long-crested Eagle. Key wildlife include: Hippos, Crocodiles, Lions, Buffalo, Elephant, Giraffe, Zebra, Mongoose, Antelope, Wildebeest and Duiker.

Game Drives
Saadani National Park is one of the last remaining protected coastal areas in Africa allowing native plants and abundant wildlife to flourish. Our guests are likely to catch sight of cats, antelopes, giraffes, elephants and buffalo. Encounters with other vehicles during game drives are uncommon and game drives occur in the early morning and late afternoon/evening when the temperature is more agreeable to both our guests and the wildlife.

River Excursions
A great place to encounter the local wildlife is the Wami River. Bird watchers are in for a treat with the overwhelming abundance of birds in their natural habitat. Our river excursions start right from the lodge and journey down towards the mouth of the river encountering hippos and crocodiles whilst the monkeys and birds watch from the trees lining the water.
Bird Watching
Not only can you watch the birds from the comfort of your room’s terrace but we will happily arrange a bird watching trip around the lodge’s surroundings for you. Species commonly seen include Kingfishers, Fish Eagles and the many species of wading birds.
